Philippe Amouyel
Philippe Amouyel, MD, PhD, holds the position of Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University Hospital of Lille in northern France. He leads a substantial academic research unit specializing in public health and molecular epidemiology of age-related diseases. Additionally, he oversees an excellence laboratory called “Distalz,” supported by the French government, which brings together eight top-tier French research teams focusing on Alzheimer’s disease. A significant portion of his research centers on investigating the genetic factors that contribute to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Amouyel’s publication record, is composed of 692 articles and reviews with a high impact in the field (h-index = 118; average citations per item 122). In 2018, he was recognized as a highly cited researcher by Web of Science, Clarivate. Between 2002 and 2011, Philippe Amouyel served as the head of the Institut Pasteur de Lille, a prominent non-profit foundation. Since 2008, he has assumed the role of CEO at the Fondation Alzheimer, a private non-profit foundation in France committed to advancing cutting-edge research in the field. Furthermore, Dr. Amouyel holds the position of Chairman for the EU Joint Programme on Neurodegenerative Diseases research (JPND). This initiative, involving 30 countries, including Canada and Australia, is dedicated to addressing the global challenge of neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular focus on Alzheimer’s disease. JPND fosters international collaboration to tackle issues that go beyond the capabilities of any single nation, laying the groundwork for an ambitious European partnership on brain health. |
